Dear all,

In order to keep you updated and current on the Glomaris product suite and on the release plan for the Glomaris suite we have put together this newsletter.

In the future it will be possible to operate the Glomaris product on 2 platforms:

Glomaris NAV & Glomaris OI

This version of the newsletter is related to Glomaris OI and is meant to give you an insight of the idea behind this additional platform and also an overall picture of content of the planned releases. A newsletter covering the Glomaris NAV platform has been released separately and can be acquired by contacting us.

Glomaris - in short
Glomaris is a software company focused on providing the shipping industry with shipping-specific business solutions, consulting, development, customization, maintenance & support.

Presently the total size of our company (including E Foqus) includes 40+ employees, a client base of 55+, and with office in Copenhagen (HQ), Kuala Lumpur, Athens and partner in Orlando.

Glomaris has during the last more than 10 years, been developing the Glomaris software suite together with some of the leading shipping companies. It is our strategic ambition to utilize that experience, to be one of the leading providers of value adding solutions for the shipping industry and well-known for our ability to help our Customers to achieve their goals through our knowledge, 360-degrees competences, resources, methods and dedication.

Glomaris NAV - the fully integrated platform
Glomaris NAV has been developed during more than 10 years in close cooperation with leading shipping companies.

The solution is designed for Ship Owners, Operators, Commercial/Pool managers and Cargo Owners and provides a sound and flexible platform for an efficient worldwide commercial operation of a fleet within tramping, parcelling and liner oriented trades for Bulk, Tank and Project trades.

The solution combines Chartering, Operations, Control and Accounting in one easy-to-use solution, providing complete control in international shipping affairs with real time update.

Glomaris NAV is fully integrated with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and thereby offers a complete integration of commercial shipping and accounting.

Glomaris OI - the idea behind the open platform of Glomaris
The idea behind the new Glomaris OI platform, is to accommodate an even wider range of shipping companies - namely the shipping companies, for whom the Microsoft NAV platform do not comply with the company’s IT strategy or due to other considerations.

In relation to Glomaris NAV, the NAV platform from Microsoft is a combination of 2 elements:

■ a development platform.
■ an application that consists of a basic functionality, e.g. handles users, access rights, etc. and then possible access to a wide range of sub-applications, such as accounting, sales, inventory, etc.

Several shipping companies using Glomaris NAV have separate accounting system - among other things for group accounting, etc. still experience Glomaris NAV as a complementary solution. On the operational side, they are enabled to handle the detailed accounting arising from the daily shipping operations directly in Glomaris NAV, resulting in 100% real time information for the business operation.. At the same time they gain access to generic functions that are used by thousands of other companies worldwide and a user interface that can be recognize by many from their use of other Microsoft-based systems. The financial figures that are relevant to transfer to the corporate accounting system are then being transferred automatically by the scheduled intervals.

But there may be companies, which have some special requirements for their IT platform that means that the NAV platform does not match.

So to ensure that these companies still can benefit from Glomaris’ many years of experience in developing business solutions for shipping companies and other services, we have decided to develop a shipping solution that does not have an integrated accounting system, but instead develops standardized integration solutions for relevant accounting systems, such as e.g. SAP, Oracle, etc. Hence the name Glomaris OI for which OI stands for Open Integration.

Glomaris OI - The Technology
The Glomaris OI platform is based on the newest Microsoft .NET technology. It is developed as a 3-tier application and is using Microsoft SQL as database platform.

Glomaris OI Roadmap
Below is the Glomaris OI product roadmap - this should provide you with an overall picture of the plans for Glomaris OI, and the security of further future development of the product.

As the roadmap shows, we are currently planning and working on four waves towards 2012 and beyond. Each of these will contain different elements, including improvements and fixes in the existing functionalities, technical upgrades and completely new functionalities. But as can been seen on the illustration each wave has it’s own focus area.

The integration to other system i.e. other accounting systems, will be done parallel with the Glomaris OI roadmap, and aligned to the marked needs.

Improvements of existing functionalities in Glomaris OI and technical upgrades will be free of charge as part of the Glomaris Maintenance; however it can have other prerequisites, which will be stated in each case. New functionalities will be priced separately, and access can be purchased. Implementation cost and other customizations are not part of any maintenance and will be charged separately.

Above is the high level product plan for Glomaris OI and what we are working on, on a continuously basis. Changes to the roadmap will naturally occur, this can either be based on the Glomaris product board decisions, or on input from Customers and the marked in general, or due to technical changes, etc. Changes to the roadmap will be announced in due time.

The new version contains a number of valuable improvements and fixes in the existing functionalities, and it includes possible access to a number of new functionalities.

  • Worldscale flat rate
  • Calculate dead freight
  • CP Tracking

 

Advanced Distance Table App
We have been researching options getting parts of the Glomaris platform accessible on mobile devices. This to discover the technical options but more importantly to get some experience in using such parts of Glomaris on mobile devices and the value of it in relation to the shipping industry.

We have used our Advanced Distance Server as object for this research and quite soon it will be possible to use this
application on mobile devices.
