Dear all,

In relation to the announcement of the Glomaris NAV Wave 1 release in August, we indicated that we expected to release Glomaris NAV Wave 2 ultimo 2011. Wave 2 was planned to focus on technical platform changes of the Glomaris NAV solution, and especially the Role Tailored Client that Microsoft has developed for NAV.

The Role Tailored Client (RTC)
We have during months used a substantial amount of energy on how the RTC can be implemented and utilized in the Glomaris
solution and to what extend it will bring value to the solution by improving the usability, efficiency, etc. even more than today in Glomaris.

In short The Role Tailored Client or RTC is a new client developed by Microsoft, where different Roles in a company are identified and hereafter aligned with which functions and data in NAV are relevant for each role/type of employees - the Accountant, the Key Account Manager, The Manager, etc. Based on these different Role Center definitions, the interface are tailored for each user to insure the user has easy access to relevant data and functions, and do not have to relate to data or functions which are not relevant for that employee.

During the last decade screens, functions, menu’s, reports and data in the Glomaris NAV solution has been tailored to support the different shipping departments including Chartering, Operations and Accounting. Nevertheless the RTC from Microsoft is a new and promising concept that can enhance the Glomaris NAV solution even more in the future.

But we do not find the RTC technology quite ready for Glomaris yet.

The conclusion from our development department is that the RTC from Microsoft does not yet have the needed tools to insure
an effective transformation from the Classic client towards the RTC in relation to Glomaris NAV. Further and more critically the present NAV version unfortunately does not have the necessary tools to control how the forms in the RTC version of Glomaris are generated. The fields in the forms using RTC in the released NAV version are dynamic positioned on the form and with fixed sizes, which makes it impossible to generate Glomaris forms/screens holding much information in a usable manor.

These shortcomings in the present NAV RTC make it impossible to reach our goals that the utilization of the RTC should improve the usability, efficiency, etc. in Glomaris. So currently we are waiting on precise information from Microsoft about these RTC related issues and exact information about content and technical features in future versions of NAV.

Changes to the NAV Wave 2 release
So based on the present status and information, we have decided to make some changes to the Wave 2 release:

  • Utilization of the RTC client will not be included in NAV Wave 2
  • The release date for Wave 2 has been rescheduled to May 2012 as we need to roll back, redo and re-test some of
the development done in Wave 2.

Updated Wave 2 content:

  • Upgrade of base objects in Glomaris to NAV2009R2, so both clients and objects of Glomaris from Wave 2 are
    based on NAV2009R2.
  • Application enhancement
  • Performance optimization
  • Changes in reporting
  • Facelift cards/registers
  • FFA upload BDI

The reschedule of the Wave 2 release, is expected to postpone later releases equally.

We will get back later in the spring with more updates about Glomaris NAV Wave 2. In the meanwhile should you have any questions or input, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,
